Re-punched, High, Tilted "6" (Right tail)
1876 H Newfoundland 50 Cents · Victoria
As stated earlier, this variety is quite different from the previous example, with it having a Re-punched and Tilted "6", which has been positioned slightly Higher in its date. In this instance, the "6" also has a Tail but this time it protrudes from the Right side of its Base. Like the first of these varieties, the "1" has also been Re-punched but there is a subtle and interesting difference. In this case, there are two Spurs, one on either side of the "1" at its Base. This second variety is very difficult to locate in any grade and appears to be considerably scarcer than its companion! Quite possibly, this might have been the result of a small order of coins that was minted from a Re-used and Modified die! However, the appearance of one example with a very weakly struck "76", might suggest that the Reverse die was either damaged or disintegrated shortly after it was introduced! Of course, this is only speculation but it might be a possible explanation.
