1943 Newfoundland 5 Cents
George VI · 12 varieties · study revised Nov. 25th 2019
The 1943 coinage is perhaps the most interesting of all the George VI issues. Not only were varieties found which had the more usual Re-engraved digits and Spacing differences, but there were also two Stylistically different types of "3's" used for these coins! This had the effect of greatly increasing the number of variances identified for this date! Some of these variations have rather subtle Modifications but they are substantial enough to be included in these listings.

The difference between the two types of "3's" is quite distinctive and fairly easy to identify. The first displays a Narrower Angle which forms the upper portion of this digit, whereas, the second variation, illustrates a Wider Angle and a more noticeably Open appearance. Finally, both of these "3's" have been Punched at various Locations above and along the Ornamental Loop!
