CVI Newfoundland

1896 Newfoundland 10 Cents

Victoria · 2 varieties · study revised Mar. 10th 2015

With a mintage of 230,000 coins, the 1896 Newfoundland 10 Cent issue represents the largest single production number for any of the Victoria 10 Cent coins! Because of this large number, it would seem very reasonable to believe that a substantial number of varieties would likely exist! However, the mint information indicates that only three Reverse dies were used for this production, which would certainly limit the number of new variations that could be discovered! To date, only a Narrow and Wide date variety are known to exist. The differences between these two variations can only be described as modest at best but, never-the-less, they are still significant enough to be documented.
