George VI · 4 varieties · study revised Feb. 14th 2020

With this year having an exceedingly low mintage of only 38,400 coins, initially, it did not appear very likely that any varieties would be found within this group. However, surprisingly, there are at least four known variances which have now been discovered! Three of these were the result of the positioning of the last two digits in the date and a fourth variation appears to be the outcome of some unusual Re-punching / Re-engraving to a few of the characters on the Reverse legend. These four varieties can be grouped into both Narrow and Wide date variations with two examples found in each category. The first two varieties can be recognized by the Narrower gap which can be observed between the last two digits of the date. Whereas, the final two variations listed in this section, can be identified by a Wider gap which exists between the "4" and "7". These can be further separated by the positioning of the "7", which may seem to be either, slightly tilted or even. Finally, it appears that all of these variances show some signs of Re-punching to "7", but it is most noticeable on the two Wide Date varieties. Finally, it should be mentioned that every variety has a Re-punched "9" but it is really only significant on the second Narrow Date variation.
