Victoria · 4 varieties · study revised July 17th 2013

With 90,000 coins minted for this year, it represents the largest single production number for any of the issuing years for this decade. Compared to the other three years, for which coins were minted, it is relatively easy to acquire an example for this date. However, unknowingly, you may be holding a very rare and previously uncatalogued variety! At the moment, there are four known variations which are significant and they now make collecting this year much more interesting and challenging!

Some of these varieties display subtle differences in the spacing between the "7" and "2", while others illustrate noticeable changes in the positioning of the Mint Mark "H". The first two of these listed varieties, have had their respective Mint Marks punched in a central location above the letters "N" and "D" (first pair in the word "NEWFOUNDLAND"), whereas, the last two varieties have had their Mint Marks punched directly over the Letter "D". The final variation is a Sub-variety, which not only has a Repositioned Right "H", but also, its Obverse Lettering has been extensively re-engraved! Both of these varieties are very scarce but this last example is extremely rare!
