Wide Date, Medium "19", Low “0’s”
1900 Newfoundland 50 Cents · Victoria
The first of these Wide Date varieties is slightly scarcer than the Narrow Date, and examples of these can still be found in the higher grades. It is fairly easy to recognize from the positioning of the "9", under the letter "E", which rests above it. In this instance, the base of the "E" covers only a small portion of the "9", whereas, with the Narrow Date, nearly half of it is covered.
