Narrow Date, Lowest "4", Wide “43”
1943 Newfoundland 5 Cents · George VI
Initially, this Narrow Date variety appears to be similar to the previous listing, with its Low "4" and High "3". However, in this instance, its effect is eye-catching with the "4" being positioned noticeably Lower than any of the other digits in the date. This very uneven appearance, makes it fairly easy to identify one of these varieties in a crowd of these coins! Also, it appears that many (if not all) of the examples from this group, show faint traces of a "Die Clash" on the Obverse Side. Even on well circulated coins, the appearance of this "Clash" can be detected as a fine, curved scratch under the King's chin.
