Wide Date, Low "4" (Obverse Die Clash)
1943 Newfoundland 5 Cents · George VI
The last of these Narrow Angle "3" varieties, has the Widest Date within this group. However, this is a subtle characteristic and it is not easily recognized. It would be better to observe the size of the Gap between the "4" and "3", which is noticeably Wider than for any of the other Narrow Angle "3" variations, (with the possible exception of the Lowest "4" variety which is unique in its own way). Also, the appearance of Diagonal, Die Polishing Lines, moving Upward from Left to Right across the Reverse surface, is another useful feature for the identification of this variation. In addition, all of the (examined) coins from this variety, show definite signs of a "Die Clash" on the Obverse side, however, it is still possible that others may be found without this characteristic. Traces of the Reverse Die can be seen with the "S" (reversed) located directly in front of the King's Nose and the "Ghosts" of the "3", "4" and the Far Ornamental Loop are positioned from his Lips into the open field just below the Bust.
