Narrow Date, High, Even "4's", (DPL)
1944 Newfoundland 5 Cents · George VI
At first glance, this Narrow Date variety might initially appear to be the same as the first variation, however, under closer examination, it can be seen that there are some minor differences. In this case, both of the "4's" have been Evenly Aligned and the first of these has been punched slightly to the Right of its Central location. However, unlike the first variation, it has been punched Evenly with its twin, giving the date an overall Uniform appearance. Finally, unlike the first example, the die used for this particular variety had been previously Polished, leaving these coins with very fine and oblique Surface Lines, which are quite noticeable on the Reverse side.
