Coin #1 in Barry's study

Of these Wide Date varieties, this is the second example which has its double "4's" punched Evenly and High above the Ornamental Loop. It does have, however, one feature which might be considered as a Defining characteristic! The first "4” has been positioned Very Close to its Twin, resulting in a noticeably Wide Gap between the “9” and “4”. As a result, this variation has one on the Widest Gaps between these two numerals of any of the known 1944 Varieties!
