Narrow Date, Narrow "94"
1940 Newfoundland 10 Cents · George VI
At first glance, these Narrow varieties appear to be almost identical. However, a closer examination will reveal that there are some subtle differences which are modest but noteworthy. Within this group, all of the dates are about the same size, with only some very minor variations. When the Narrow dates are compared to the Wide date varieties, there is a more noticeable difference in the Gaps between the "4" and "0". This, however, is not the case amongst the Narrow date coins themselves. In this situation, the Gaps between these two Numerals appear to be about the same size. Therefore, it becomes necessary to look elsewhere for any differences. It appears that the solution to this problem can be solved by observing the sizes of the Gaps between the "9" and "4", where it can be readily seen that there are differences between these variations. In this particular instance, the Gap found here is the Narrowest, which is its only significant and defining Characteristic!
