Narrow Date, Wide Gap "94"
1941 Newfoundland 10 Cents · George VI
The first of these 1941 varieties seems to be the most common and is fairly easy to find in better grades. It can be distinguished from the other varieties by observing the size of the gap between the "9" and "4" in the date. In this case, the spacing between these two numerals is Wider than it is for the following variety. In addition, the "1" has been punched slightly closer to the front face of the Ornamental Loop than it is for any of the Wide Date variations but this difference is not always obvious. One of the problems is that this group consists of several minor variances which sometimes make a positive identification difficult. This description is generally valid for most of these coins, however, there are others which have very minor differences which do not exactly fit this specific profile. These might occur as almost negligible variations in the spacing between the numerals or even as a slight tilting or Re-punching of the "4" and "1"!
