Narrow Date, Narrow "94"
1942 Newfoundland 10 Cents · George VI
The first of these "Narrow Date" varieties, is very similar to its closest relative, (listed below) but there are some minor differences between them. Perhaps the most obvious of these can be seen with the spacing between the "9" and "4" in the date. In this instance, the gap between these two digits is Narrower than it is for any of its companions. Also, the "2" appears to have a flatter base than the following example which has a more "arched" appearance to it. In addition, the Mint Mark "C", has been punched in a Central position between the two tails and under the Oval of the Ornamental Design. Finally, there is still one other possible sign post which can be quite helpful with the identification of this particular variety. On all of these examples that have been examined, there have been Die Cracks located under the Ornamental Design, and also there is a small, oblique Die Break which runs up to the bottom of the first "D" (in "NEWFOUNDLAND), at the top of the Reverse Side.
