Narrow Date, Hook "9's", Re-Engraved "S"
1899 Newfoundland 20 Cents · Victoria
This is certainly the easiest variety to recognize because it has several features which make it unique. The most obvious of these are the two "9's" which are stylistically different, displaying Distinctive "Hooks" at the ends of their tails. In addition, both the "8" in the date and the Letter "S" (in the word "CENTS"), have been noticeably Modified. However, there are still a couple of other characteristics which will be helpful with the recognition of this particualar variety. The "T" in the word "CENTS" has the shortest Right Foot and the Date is the Narrowest of any of these variations. This can be quickly verified by comparing the Gap between the last "9" and the Ornamental Beads to those of the other varieties!
