Wide Date, High "0"
1900 Newfoundland 20 Cents · Victoria
The first of these four known varieties has a Wide Date, which can be identified by using a combination of its characteristics. In this instance, it can be recognized by observing the Gap between the "1" and "9", which is Wider than those of the "Split", Wide date and the Narrow Date variations. Also, it is further defined by the positioning of the last "0", which has been punched slightly higher than those of its three relatives. Finally, this variety and the following "Split Date", are the most commonly found in this group but are still very difficult to locate in higher grades.
