Medium Date, High, Re-punched "6", Centre-Left "H" and Low, Re-Engraved “F” in “NEWFOUNDLAND”
1876 H Newfoundland One Cent · Victoria
This particular example also has a Medium Date, but it is only one of a few varieties which has the Numeral "6" punched slightly Higher in the date. With the majority of the other variations, this digit has been positioned either Evenly or Lower than the other numerals.
Like so many of the other varieties, the three "E's" have been noticeably Re-engraved, and once again, each of these has its own subtle differences. In addition, the letter “F” (in NEWFOUNDLAND) has been Re-Engraved and positioned Lower than it is with any of the other varieties, except for the 1st Wide Date variation, which also has a Low “F”. However with that example, the “F” is a Short and Stubby character. With either of these two varieties, the letter “F” is unique in its own way and each defines its own variety.
Finally, the Mint Mark "H" has been punched farther to the Left (closer to the "U") than on any of the other known variations. By comparison, the majority of these listed varieties can be found with their Mint Marks punched at various positions, over the Left Leg of the "N", in "NEWFOUNDLAND", whereas in this case, it completely clears it!
