Medium Date, Low "80", Tilted "0", Re-Engraved, "A" & "N"
1880 Newfoundland One Cent · Victoria
This particular Medium Date variety is defined by the numerals "8" & "0", which have been punched a little Lower in the date, and the "0" is Tilted slightly to its Left. Also, the Letter “A", in “NEWFOUNDLAND", has been noticeably Re-engraved, leaving it with the appearance of having been over-cut by a smaller character, which can be detected at the top of this digit. In addition, the final "N", also displays some modest signs of these Alterations. Initially, this variety might leave the impression that it belongs to the Wide Date group of coins, because its "0" had been punched Lower, leaving it closer to the Ornamental Beads.
