Medium Date, Re-Engraved "E's" & Wide "89"
1894 Newfoundland One Cent · Victoria
The last of these Medium Date varieties, also has its "4" pointing to the Middle Bead, however, in this instance, it is located a little farther to the right. Because these differences are so subtle, it will be necessary to verify this particular variation by examining some of its other features. Once again, the Reverse side Lettering will be useful for this purpose. In this case, it can be seen that these Letters do not show the same extensive Re-engraving that are found on some of these other varieties. However, each of the Letter "E's", found in the words "ONE" and "CENT", clearly indicate extensive alterations made to both of these characters. Of the three Medium date varieties, this variation demonstrates the fewest eye-catching modifications made to its Reverse side Legend! Finally, some mention should be made of the numeral "4", which appears to be a very Frail digit, as compared to those of the other variations. Also, this example has the Widest Gap between the "8" and "9" of these three Medium date varieties.
