The last of these known varieties has a Wide Date which can be easily recognized by the closeness of its 5 to the Ornamental Ring of Beads, and it also has the Widest Gap between the 8 and 5 of any of these variations. Finally, the Tail of its 5 appears to be somewhat Blunted like that of the second Narrow Date variety.

How rare is it?

In Barry's survey of 205 coins from 1885, 54 were this variety (26.3%). That projects to about 10,537 of the 40,000 struck.

From Barry's population report of February 2020 (see the full 1885 report). How the reports work.
