Medium Date, Pointed, Tilted 5
1885 Newfoundland 50 Cents · Victoria
At first glance, this next variation appears to be very similar to the First, aforementioned Narrow Date variety, however, it differs with the size of the Gap between the 8 and the 5. In this instance, it is a little Wider than either of those of the two Narrow Date varieties, but it does exhibit a prominently Pointed 5, like the first Narrow Date variance.
How rare is it?
In Barry's survey of 205 coins from 1885, 61 were this variety (29.8%). That projects to about 11,902 of the 40,000 struck.
From Barry's population report of February 2020 (see the full 1885 report). How the reports work.
