Wide Date, Re-Engraved Legend
1941 Newfoundland 10 Cents · George VI
The third variety in this group is the easiest to recognize because of the extensive Re-engraving to both the Letters in the word "CENTS" and to the numbers "4" and "1" in the date. In many respects, it is very similar to the Narrow Date Re-engraved variety but in this instance, these effects are not quite as spectacular. Also, for comparison purposes, it should be added that the "C" in the word "CENTS" and the "19" of the date, show little or no signs of having been Altered. Both of these 1941 Re-engraved varieties have much in common with those Modified variations from the 1940 coinage, but their effects are not nearly as eye-catching!
Note: On page 111 of Han Zoell's 1962 Catalog, he makes reference to two varieties from this year: J820a 41 in date close together (TYPE I (a) - Narrow Date, Wide "94") J820b 41 in date farther apart {TYPE II (b) - Wide Date, Low, Tilted "4"}
