Coin #1 in Barry's study

With such a low mintage, the 1946 coins are generally more difficult to locate than most of the other dates from this series. However, the discovery of a second variety, has introduced a variation which is even more difficult to find within this group. The differences between these two variations are not always readily noticeable, but under closer examination, they can be recognized. In this instance, both the "4" and the Mint Mark "C" have been Punched slightly Higher than on those of its companion. Finally, coins without the aforementioned "Die Break", generally belong to this second variety, but this can only be confirmed by checking the positions of the "4" and "C".
