Wide Date, Repunched "0", Re-Engraved "C" & "S"
1890 Newfoundland 20 Cents · Victoria
At first, the second Wide Date variety might seem to be a little difficult to identify but by examining a few features of the coin, it should nicely fit into its proper place. For this particular variety, the "0" in the Date has been Repunched with traces of the original digit still clearly visible at the bottom of the eye and on the outer edge of the numeral (specifically the Right Side). Also, the Letter "S" has been Re-engraved with a fairly large fragment of the original Letter still clearly visible in the upper section of this character. This is the second example of a variety where this modification has occurred within the Letter "S" but these changes are not exactly the same on both of these variations. Finally, unlike the Narrow Date varieties, these Wide Date variations do not display any significant signs of Re-engraving to the Large Numeral "2" of the "20" (CENTS).
