Narrowest Date, High, Re-punched Wide “O” over an Oval “0”
1880 Newfoundland One Cent · Victoria
This variation is very unusual for several reasons: it has the Narrowest Date of all the Varieties that are known for this year; it has a Higher “O”, whereas, the vast majority of the coins for this date, have either an Even or Lower “O”. However, in this situation, it appears to have been punched with either a Wide “O” having an Oval eye, or an Oval “0” that was Over-punched by a Wide “O”! To date, only one example of this variety is known to exist!
