Narrow Date & Re-Engraved Letters (e.g., "N's", "E's" & "A")
1890 Newfoundland One Cent · Victoria
As with so many of the other varieties, this particular variation is just another example which follows the continuing progression of the "0", from Left to Right on these coins. The difference again, is not particularly remarkable, but together with its own unique pattern of Modified Letters, makes it another interesting member of this family. In this case, the Letter "A", in "NEWFOUNDLAND", has been very prominently Re-Engraved Off-centre, making it the only example of this particular feature to be found on the Narrow Date varieties. However, this very same characteristic can be seen on the TYPE II (a & c) Wide Date variations! This can be problematic, but luckily, the Letter "E", found in word "ONE", for each of these three varieties, has been Re-engraved leaving each with its own particular characteristics!
