Narrow Re-punched Date, Medium "41", Centre "C"
1941 Newfoundland One Cent · George VI
This variety is the first of three examples which exhibit some of these very eye-catching signs of Re-engraved Lettering and Over-punched numerals, which were also so prominent with the 1940 coinage! The modifications made to the 1941 issue were not quite as spectacular as those of the preceding year, but some were, nonetheless, quite striking! With this particular variety, all of the numbers in the date show some degree of Re-punching but the "4" is of particular interest. It will be seen in the following examples, that each of these "4's" has been over-punched in their own unique way. In this instance, the original numeral can be clearly seen inside the eye and around most of the outside edge of this digit. In addition, many of the Letters on the Reverse Legend, also display traces of Re-engraving! Specifically, the Letters "A", "N" and "T" illustrate modest signs of these alterations. Finally, the Mint Mark "C" for this and the following two varieties, has been centered almost evenly between the "T" and the "Dot".
