Wide Date, Re-punched "4", Even "42"
1942 Newfoundland 10 Cents · George VI
The second Wide Date variety listed in this section, is perhaps the easiest to recognize within this group. In this particular case, the "42" has been punched Evenly with the first two digits in the date, positioning the “2” Lower and closer to the Ornamental Loop. In addition, the "4" has been Re-punched, but there is only a trace of the original digit still remaining on the Upper Left side of this Numeral. Finally, the Mint Mark "C" has been punched noticeably Lower and farther to the Right than it was for any of the other varieties. In this case, the “C” nearly touches the Right Tail of the Ornament.
Note: On page 111 of Hans Zoell's 1962 Catalog, he makes reference to two varieties for this year: J821a 42 in date close together {TYPE I (a) - Narrow Date, Narrow "94"} J822b 42 in date farther apart {TYPE II (b) - Wide Date, Low "2"}
